What to wear with a fur coat: the main principle

The second principle is balance of volume. If the coat is loose or long, keep the lower half cleaner: straight trousers, a dress without a full skirt, neat shoes. If the coat is short, you can allow fuller trousers or a skirt.

What to wear with a black fur coat

What to wear with a grey fur coat

A grey fur coat looks softer than black and slightly more unexpected. In our collection, that is the Astra, smoky grey karakul with a subtle pearlescent sheen. This shade usually pairs well with cream, white, graphite, navy and burgundy, meaning calm and cool tones.

The point is not to overload the outfit with shine. The Astra has its own sheen, so glossy fabrics and large sequins beside it can compete with the fur. Matte knitwear, wool or plain silk are better choices.

For everyday, dark jeans or graphite straight trousers, a light jumper and comfortable ankle boots work. For evenings, a dress in a dark tone and a clutch bag; choose fine jewellery so it does not distract from the fur.

What to wear with a floor-length fur coat

A floor-length fur coat is formal and striking, and it is easier to wear than it looks. The main task is not to get lost in it: a long coat covers almost the whole silhouette, so keep a simple, vertical line beneath. Combinations that usually work: straight or slightly flared trousers, which keep the line clean while the shoes just show at the hem; a midi or maxi dress in knitwear or silk, with the hem not longer than the coat; ankle boots or boots on a stable heel, easier in snow than a stiletto; and closed shoes you can genuinely walk in, so try the coat on with exactly those.

A fur coat with jeans: an everyday outfit

A fur coat with jeans is the simplest way to make fur casual. It removes the formality and makes the outfit feel alive. Straight and slightly relaxed jeans work best; very slim jeans also work if the top half is voluminous.

What to add: a thin jumper, a turtleneck or a shirt, neat boots or trainers with a thick sole. If the coat is short, like the golden-beige Champagne jacket, jeans and boots look especially natural. Dark navy and graphite jeans go with light fur; with a black coat, light jeans also look good.

What to avoid: do not combine ripped jeans, sportswear and bulky jewellery all at once. The coat sets the tone, so keep the look beside it tidy.

A fur coat with a dress: evenings and formal occasions

A fur coat with a dress is a classic for the theatre, a restaurant or a celebration. Midi and maxi dresses in calm colours are most common: navy, emerald, burgundy, black, cream. Knitted and wool dresses tend to be more suitable than very thin fabrics in frost.

The Royale mantle with a standing collar is especially suitable here: the collar covers the neck and replaces a scarf, so the neckline of the dress stays clean. A strict look could be a sheath or midi dress, tights to match, ankle boots or court shoes and a clutch.

Keep evening jewellery restrained, such as earrings or a fine chain. A large necklace beside the collar can get lost in the fur.

Shoes and a bag to wear with a fur coat

Choose shoes by weather and length. With a long coat, ankle boots, boots and closed shoes on a stable heel look good; with a short one, boots and loafers with a thick sole. Trainers are fine if the outfit is casual. The main thing is that shoes are clean and match the bag in tone.

The bag is a separate question. It is better to avoid a heavy shoulder bag: it rubs the fur and leaves marks on the shoulder. It is easier to carry a bag in your hand, on your elbow or as a cross-body on a long strap under the coat. In the evening, a clutch works well.

Colours: any shoe and bag colour goes with a black coat; graphite, cream, burgundy and blue go with grey; brown and warm neutrals go with the golden-beige.

What to avoid, and how to try a fur coat with your outfit

A few tips that often help; these are general observations, not strict rules. Do not wear the coat with a heavy shoulder bag, as fur wears over time. Do not pair a long coat with a very long dress in the same tone, because the outfit loses shape. Do not add too much shiny fabric beside fur that has its own sheen. Do not choose thin, slippery soles, which are unsafe in winter. And remember comfort: a fur coat must be wearable on the move, not only in the fitting room.
