Which fur coats are in fashion: the short answer

In one sentence: fur coats that look simple and expensive are in fashion. Instead of heavy details, there is a clean line, a neat collar, a well-judged length and a refined colour. Karakul is exactly that: its texture, a fine dense curl, creates the pattern by itself and needs no extra decoration.

An important caveat: fashion in fur changes slowly, and a good fur coat lasts more than one season. We are talking about general tendencies seen in recent seasons, not hard rules. Do not buy a fur coat “just because it is fashionable”; it should suit you and fit well.

Two opposite options are often chosen right now. The first is a straight, strict silhouette without an emphasised waist: it looks composed and goes with almost anything. Length is the most visible parameter, and several options are popular this season:

Colours: black, grey, light beige

This season a calm palette is still in favour: deep black, smoky grey shades and warm light tones such as beige and gold. Black karakul remains the base that people return to every year. Grey looks softer and more modern, while light shades help you stand out and refresh a familiar winter wardrobe.

A practical tip: the more neutral the colour, the more of your wardrobe it will go with. A light fur coat makes sense if you already have dark outerwear for every day.

Why karakul stays relevant

Karakul does not chase fashion, which is why it rarely falls out of it. It has a short dense pile and a natural curl pattern, so a fur coat looks neat and “expensive” without lavish details. It is light, hard-wearing and suits different lengths and cuts, from a short jacket to a full-length manto.

• With a midi dress and boots: an evening or festive look
